Jubilation

This morning as I tried to sleep

the birds began to sing;

A symphony of chirping

loudly heralded the Spring.

Outside my window, piercing shrills

brought excitement in the air;

and despite my dog’s protesting barks

they continued without a care.

It was as if they urged me on,

waste not the light of day.

The things I needed to prepare

could not afford delay.

I gathered pen and paper,

and made note of my intent;

and as I listed all my needs

my mind became content.

With only days before this journey

that will take us far away,

mixed feelings of jubilance and nerves

have overpowered me today.

But I look past my excitement

to the blueness of the sky,

to the clarity of the moment,

and know, my best, I’ll try.
