The Steel Bird

The great steel bird stretched out its wings and screeched an almighty roar;

And through the clouds, to the clear blue sky like an eagle it did soar.

The people gaze from down below, in awe of the bird in flight,

and the people within search their souls as they pray, amazed at the steel bird's might.

Time is motionless in the heavens above, the destiny seems far away,

and the stewards work like tireless ants, down narrow aisles, with their tray.

The hours go slowly, and the sky turns red, as the sun begins to set.

Tired bodies wriggle around, as if caught in a fishes net.

The ocean shimmers from the glow of the moon, as it welcomes the dark of night;

the shutters are drawn closed, upon request, to block out the fearsome sight.

Heavy eyes succumb to sleep, to be woken by the bell;

the red light flashes above their heads, as they ride the carousel.

Rain pelts across tiny windows, and lightning flashes across the sky.

Fear reflects from hundreds of eyes; are they about to die?

The steel bird shakes as the captain speaks; fear not the turbulence,

and as he guides it through the storm, they applaud his magnificence.
